practicing what I preach

I liked the discussion about how to reach someone who does not believe, that was very provocative.   I read somewhere that one of the best ways is to minister by how we live our lives.  This is an area in which I personally struggle a lot because oftentimes my life does NOT line up with what I preach.  And you know what?  We can also minister to fellow Christian friends in this way, too.  Perhaps that is a good place to start.    One friend I know in particular ministers to me in this way, and I try to do the same for him.   He and I both like to shop, and we both have impulsive tendencies.   So when we go into a store like Fred Meyer or Target, or Radio Shack, as we often do, we have now committed to holding one another accountable when one of us sees the other's spending spinning or drifting out of control.   Mine either spins or drifts, depending on the occasion and what I'm buying.   It can be as simple as "Do you think buying that right now is a wise choice?"  or asking ourselves, "Is that a want or a need?"  We used to not do this and it sometimes wrought havoc financially.  I don't know whether other guys' accountability partners do this for them, but I must admit I think what my friend helps me with is pretty cool.  - Kevin

Kevin,

It was great to meet you! My wife Robin and I were very blessed by what you shared. I hope you'll stop by again in the future. You spoke from the heart, and it really meant a lot!

I'm still wrestling with the some of the questions we discussed. God is working on my heart, changing me as much as I am able to keep up with Him. And that's a great feeling. :-)

See ya!
